Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland Park Has Had a Striking Makeover

Last month Sleeping Beauty’s Castle was unveiled having had a striking makeover. The castle had been “hiding” for several months while it was being refurbished and it is now even more stunning. The new makeover features more vibrant colors, a new roof along with some subtle pixie dust applied.

The colors and details on Sleeping Beauty Castle have been updated several times since the original concept art of the castle that was first drawn in the 1950s.

Kim Irvine, art director of Walt Disney Imagineering said, “What’s interesting about this time is that we used an ages-old painting technique called atmospheric perspective to visually heighten the castle. We warmed the pink hues on the lower towers and gradually added blue to lighten the colors toward the top.” The same technique was also used along the new roof adding spectacular cobalt hues. A little bit of pixie dust has been sprinkled on the center roof.

“We focused the golden accents and pixie dust around the entrance to the castle, as though it has been magically enchanted,” said Irvine. The walkthrough exhibit inside Sleeping Beauty Castle also received a new coat of paint and changes to lighting.

I can’t wait to make it to Disneyland so I can check out the new reimagined castle myself. The photos I’ve seen are all gorgeous.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Guidemap for Disneyland Park

Now that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has opened at the Disneyland Park, the Disneyland Park map has been updated to show the location of this new area.

The map shows the new 14-acre area and its three entrances: one in Fantasyland, one in Frontierland, and one in Critter Country. It also shows the location for the attractions and dining that can be found within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

It’s also possible to navigate Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on your mobile phone through the Disneyland App or on your desktop through the Disneyland.com website.

This is going to be a “must do” on my next trip…which won’t come soon enough.

You Can Explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with the Disney Parks App and the Star Wars: Datapad

You will be able to interact with the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area while physically in the land either at Disneyland or Walt Disney World. The Star Wars: Datapad can be accessed through the Play Disney Parks mobile app. With Star Wars: Datapad you will find that you have several tools that you can use while exploring the planet Batuu–who knows what surprises you’ll uncover!

There is a “hacking” feature which you can use, which allows you to interact with certain door panels and droids to be able to see what’s in their memory. You can also open the “scanning” feature to peek inside of cargo crates you that you may come across will exploring Black Spire Outpost. Another handy feature is the “translation” tool which can help you understand Aurebesh (the official language of the Star Wars galaxy). You will be able to tap into and decrypt signals from antennas and communication devices and listen in on secret messages using the “tuning” feature.

The First Order has apparently been installing surveillance devices on door panels throughout the Black Spire Outpost in order to spy on the Resistance. You can use your Datapad to join in “Outpost Control” (a game played throughout the land) where you can choose which side you’ll join and vie for a hold on the land. You might even be rewarded with galactic credits for your efforts.

You can continue using the Datapad while in line at Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. While you wait to board the Millennium Falcon you may be enlisted to take on a task for Hondo Ohnaka, the pirate turned businessman who is now operating Ohnaka Transport Solutions out of Black Spire Outpost. When you reroute the misplaced cargo, you will learn how to keep your cover under pressure and prep the Millennium Falcon for your flight in the queue.

The Play Disney Parks app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. I recommend downloading before your visit. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now open at Disneyland and will open at Walt Disney World Resort on August 29, 2019.
